The first post (is the hardest)

As with a lot of thoughts I have I'm not sure where this came from but I get a bye as it's my first post. Hopefully that's a bye to the second post and not a goodbye. I can hear Yusuf / Cat Stevens or P. P. Arnold singing ' The first cut is the deepest' and feeling that pain. However, I don't get the same feeling (or any feeling) when I listen to Rod Stewart's version. I can only hear 'The first pothole is the deepest' after his recent exploits at road mending near his home in Harlow, Essex. Here's Rod in hi-viz explaining the background:
